When great artists create public installations, the PR engines go in a whirlwind. The artist’s vision is celebrated, interviews are broadcast and awards are announced. While the media goes into a frenzy over the ‘art with a purpose’, in some distant remote corner of the planet, engineers are quietly creating “art for a purpose”. Just because it isn’t labelled art, doesn’t mean it is not.
